Pours a deep, dark brown coloration with a huge, lasting, foamy head. Smells is dominated by sweet, almost juicy notes of tropical fruit: mango, passion fruit guava, but also with hints of licorice and roasted malt. Taste follows the nose, with a good balance of juicy tropical fruit notes and roasted malt, with a light dankness and hints of grass, licorice and leather as well. Finishes with a dry, medium bitterness and medium hop burn. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.
Personally, I very much bemoan the fact that the Black IPA never really took off. This is a very solid example of the style and probably the first "NE style Black IPA" with its juicy fruit notes. Perhaps a little too juicy for the style though, to be honest. Still, there is that roasted malt, licorice and leather to it as well. Balance seems a little off, but still a very nice, unique brew.

Pours a dark brown, with light brown head. Looks like Coke or Julmust.
Smell is so strange for the look, very fruity and tropical, with mango and hoppy licorice up front, and some roasted notes in the back.
Taste starts roasty, but still fruity. Malty, yet tropical and hoppy. This is probably the most distinctly IPA7stout-hybrid I've had. Both elements come through and shine, and work very well together.
Mouthfeel is medium, well carbonated.
Overall, such an interesting beer! Quite an experience, really.
