Collaboration with Mikkeller
A Coffee Oatmeal Stout brewed in collaboration with Scandinavia’s OG brewing phantom MIKKELLER. This is the illegitimate son of the original BEER GEEK BREAKFAST STOUT. We took the original recipe, forced it apart then rebuilt it carefully with some WYLAM hoodoo. Layered swarthy malt complexity commingle with subtle pulsations of sweet honey and rare Columbian Nariño Aponte coffee beans.

Pours a pitch-black coloration with a large, creamy head that recedes quickly. Smells of roasted malt and coffee, with an intense coffee aroma that brings hints of vanilla, cardamon and blueberry, as well as some honey and dark, bitter chocolate. Taste follows the nose, with some roasted, caramel malt, but being very much dominated by the intense and rather nuanced coffee presence, with notes of quite bitter, dark and roasted coffee beans and spicey and fruity accents of vanilla, cardamon, cinnamon, cherry and blueberry, as well as some equally dark and bitter chocolate and hints of honey. Finishes with a medium bitterness and some dark, bitter coffee and chocolate lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.
An excellent coffee stout with quite a rich and complex coffee presence that harmonizes very well with the roasted, caramel, chocolatey malts here, giving this a rather roasted, bitter character that is very much enhanced by subtle spice and fruit notes and a light honey sweetness, with the flavors developing nicely as this warms. One of the best Coffee Stouts I've had, I reckon, although perhaps just a tad lacking in body and mouthfeel.
