On-tap at the brewpub. The style is based off of my impressions and the fact that they claim they are brewed to English standards.
Pours one shade from black with a one-finger tan head. The head recedes into a wispy layer on top leaving solid lacing.
Smells of lightly roasted malt with good amounts of unsweetened chocolate.
Tastes similar to how it smells. Smooth yet muted roasted malt flavors kick things off before being joined midway through the sip by good amounts of unsweetened chocolate and cocoa powder. The ending is mildly bitter. As the beer warms the flavor profile sweetens a bit but the roasted malt flavors remain dominant.
Mouthfeel is good. It's got a smooth thickness with moderate carbonation.
Drinkability is also good. I didn't have any problems finishing my glass and could have another.
Overall this was a simple beer and the best thing about it was that there were no flaws. Worth a shot.
