they promise me there is no maple in this, but i have to scratch my head at that claim. this delicious coffee stout smells and taste like real maple syrup, especially up front, but really all the way though, its great stout, and if they didnt add the maple, it must come from the coffee. its not a flavored coffee thing, like a forced vanilla in the bean or anything, but this maple character is really profound, and its awesome with the roasty earthy warming and high quality coffee flavor in the beer, the two together are amazing. the base stout is nice too, although its a little sweet for high volume consumption, at least for me, there is a lot of sugar on the back end and it slows me down, especially with the slightly lesser carbonation in this one, its heavy for the wrong reasons, but i dont let it bother me because the flavor here is so good. maple for days, with a dark chocolate note and all the coffee, brown sugar, and richness. its smooth on the palate and is really distinct. id love to know more about the coffee they used with all this maple flavor in it. just right for this beer. cool brew! on tap at their new brewery!

Pours black with a half a finger of khaki head that has a consistency somewhere between foam and fizz. Retention is okay, with no lacing left behind. Aroma gives off a hearty, sugary breakfast flavor, with notes of maple, syrup, roasted malts, coffee, and a little chili pepper spice. Flavor profile follows suit, with maple syrup right at the front. Roasted malts mingle with chili peppers giving it a little bit of a spicy flair, but only in the slightest. Coffee is vibrant, and at a well-balanced, medium-roast level. Mouth feel is thin, and a tad fizzy. With a combo of maple syrup, and coffee, all in a thinner stout profile, this is a great stout to drink fast. It feels thinner then 6.3%, unfortunately the little fizzy feel keeps it from being a prime easy-drinking stout.
Served in a 12oz snifter.

First full review. Saw all the less than great reviews and felt the need to interject.
L: Deep rich brown to black. Thin to no head
S: Burnt black coffee (in a good way), caramelized sugar, hint of vanilla and maple
T: Rich dark roasted coffee with a well balanced sweetness up front. Finishes a bit dry with a slightly bitter coffee flavor that lingers.
F: Thin for a coffee stout with moderate carbonation
O: Compared to other Charleville offerings this is great. It's not the best coffee stout you'll ever have but far from the worst. Very underrated and a pleasant surprise IMHO. Compares well to Schlafly's Coffee stout but I would actually give this the edge. Doesn't hold a candle to other STL Coffee stouts like Perennial's Sump or 2nd Shift's Coffee LSD, but for the price it's a solid offering.

L: black with no head
S: big coffee and then subtle maple syrup sweetness
T: miled coffee, then the sweetness I smelt. The sweetness taste like lows sugar syrup (diet syrup / artificial). Need bigger coffee to balance out the sweetness. A little tinkering and this has potential to be great.
F: typical thin stout feel. Not good.

On tap. Poured an opaque, oil-black color with a small, thin head of brown foam. It smelled of coffee, chocolate and caramel. Strong coffee taste with dark chocolate and toffee.

This beer has a maple syrup sweetness up front that starts to fade as the beer warms up. Coffee also becomes more pronounced. A little thin but a decent beer overall.
