Pours a brown color. 1/4 inch head of an off-tan color. Good retention and great lacing. Smells of strong rye, coffee, roasted malt, and spicy hops. Fits the style of an American Black Ale. Mouthfeel is smooth and clean, with an average carbonation level. There is an elevated roasted malt bitterness. Tastes of strong roasted malt, rye, slight sweet malt, hint of coffee, and spicy hops. Overall, tasty, lacking complexity, but good appearance, feel, and body.

From a 16 ounce can, this brew is black, with a tall, rocky tan head. The aroma has a spicy rye aroma, along with a sharp hop note. Earthy and herbal taste, with very roasted malt underneath, that comes out after the mid taste. Full in body...solid bitterness. Not bad.
