The subtle notes of coffee and a heavenly aroma of chocolate set the pace for our Oatmeal Stout. Its rich creamy mocha head and silky soft body are created by using a delicate balance of Roasted Barley, Chocolate Malt and Rolled Oats. First brewed as a winter seasonal our Oatmeal Stout is now available year round.

Poured an opaque, jet black color with a small head of foam. It smelled of chocolate, roasted malt and some coffee. It tasted of some sweet chocolate with some bitter roasted malt.

Appearance: Pours a nearly black color topped by a rocky tan head that throws off big bubbles like a cooking pancake as it settles down; leaves a few shards of lacing behind
Smell: Charred mocha with bread and oatmeal elements underneath
Taste: Charred mocha flavors on the opening, with a hint of dark fruit developing by mid-palate; the flavors fade, after the swallow, leaving a somewhat phenolic character
Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation; rather aqueous for the style, with none of the creamy oat character
Overall: A severely lacking mouthfeel detracts from an otherwise OK oatmeal stout

Review from BeerAdvocate Magazine Issue #35 (Dec 2009):
Style trademarks: stiff tan head and nearly pitch black. Mild coffee-like aroma with some charred grain and fruitiness within. Subtle smoothness off of a creamy fullish body. Sweet from start to finish. Mild roasted coffee, milk chocolate, faint charcoal and some burnt raisins to kick things off. Hopping is mostly bitter with a slight herbal flavor in the middle; mild overall. Milky and fruity. A little charred wood and coffee grounds in the end.
Full bodied, to say the least; a sweet sipping Oatmeal Stout this is. Pairing with some oatmeal cookies would be the obvious pick. Highly recommended for any Stout lovers out there.

My first Charleville beer.Poured a near jet black except for some ruby highlights when held to the light,a fluffy one finger mocha colored head atop that faded pretty quickly.Aromas of milk chocolate, molasses, and subtle earth.A little light a prickly in the mouth wich hinders the flavors in my mind. The flavors consisted of milk chocolate, light vanilla, with a decent dry woody/earthiness in the finish. Its decent but its drinkability is compromised along with the flavors from a real light mouthfeel.
