Oh farewell summer of sun and humid heat. Fall is here yet another year. No feast nor fest neither shall there be rest, until the fruits of fertility brew us thy ale. Oh brewer with the harvest at hand, brew us the ale in which we demand. The Witch's Brew'mmm is a Belgian style ale brewed with pumpkin and spices. A whimsical yeast and a handful of hops.

Pours an effervescent orange/amber with a pinky of cream colored head. Clouds up a bit as the bottle is drained, traces of lacing & head retention

S: Cinnamon, nutmeg, faint pumpkin notes that get stronger as it warms

T: Follows the nose, slight squashyness & dryness up front, plus just a bit mushroom & dirt. Dryness, squashy notes, with some faint metallic notes as this warms. Finishes dry, with nutmeg & all-spice

MF: Light bodied, slight carbonation, pretty dry

Slight better than most pumpkin beers, but still not a must-buy

The beer pours a syrupy looking dull cooper with little visible carbonation, no head, and no sediment. The nose is ripe pumpkin aromas forward followed by a fruit,y rye-like spiciness and a hint of citrus. The taste presents the same vegetable/gourd sweetness, a hint of spice (although still not traditional pie spices), and slightly tart lemony finish. It's medium bodied, syrupy sweet, undercarbonated, spicy, and has a semi-dry tartness that lingers in the finish. This is a relatively unique pumpkin ale, one that doesn't overwhelm with spice, but highlights the gourd instead. I'd probably opt for a pumpkin ale with more pie spice notes in the future, but like that it's not nearly as sweet as the majority of beers in the pumpkin ale category.
