Not sure if this is the correct brew...Had at Gingerman SONO. Tap list says its a De Glazen Canaster, Scotch Ale, Matured in Ransom Spirits Whiskey/Pinot Noir Barrels. Abv matches, as does name, but style and aging does not. Couldnt find any info on it on a google search at time of writing...
Had on tap poured into a wine glass. Nice amber brown pour with a bit of head. Really strong boozey aromas, turpentine like, but kind of good...i do smell a lot of cherry and wild yeast funk. Taste is bitter cherry, wild yeast, some mellow wood maybe as well?? Its a bit harsh when cold (first pour) but mellows out and develops nicely as it warms. Overall, a really interesting brew, and very cool to have on tap...id just let it warm up for a while before judging this one.

On tap and out of a wooden cask at Max's during their Belgian festival.

The beer pours a reddish copper color with surprisingly good head retention and lacing (I thought initially I had gotten the cask version, but initially was inadvertently given the draft version). The nose is pretty complex, showcasing wood, apple cider and light vanilla. I got some underlying malty fruit flavors as the beer warms up, but the drying citrus flavor keeps the sweet malt well in check. The beer is otherwise medium bodied, with a fairly long, somewhat gritty, malt and citrus finish. Also, I thought the cask version was bit fuller and smoother on the palate, with the lower carbonation accenting the malt flavor a bit more. Probably preferred the cask version, but in all honesty, the two versions were pretty similar, except for the mouthfeel.

Not bad, but really nothing extraordinairy either.

Pours a clear copper with a thin white head.

Great nose of winter spices and Belgian candi sugar and malt.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied, nicely carbonated and with a very nice balance and medium richness.

Flavors are sweet toffee/carmel and creamed sweet coffee. Has a nice balance of hops and coffee character.

Finish is very pleasant and appealing sweet spice. Very nice winter brew and worth finding.

Served on tap at Novare Res' Belgian Beer Fest. I had a 24 oz pour in my Uprising Chalice. This beer has a very dark red color, almost brown. There is a light head that disappeared before i had my first taste. There is a scent of sweet fruit--maybe strawberries? The initial taste is cool, clean and crisp. There is a malty sweetness that isn't sugary. A slightly sour aftertaste completes this beer. I found this beer to be exceptional. I wouldn't hesitate to order another and would go out of my way to get my hands on a bottle.

This is a 2006 and ABV is 9.5%. I poured it into a regular pint glass even though it has a chalice in the paper wrapper. The best way to describe this is a lighter entry level Chimay blue. Lighter, similar sweetness and easy to drink. Not sure what I paid at the Stuffed Sandwich for this but it had to be at least 10 bucks. There are so many better Belgian Xmas beers out there but hey live and learn.

Filled 5 okt 2005, BB 2 years after. Nice head and a dark brown almost black beer. Nose is very full and delicate giving caramelcandy, litle roast, lots of alcohol and nicely sharp spiced. Litle yeast(autolysation)note ehancing the spiced note and overall very fine. Taste is sweet and full having lots of alcohol and bitter spice. Next to that some yeast again and a good candynote. Well but not to high carbonated and overall good note but litle alcoholic and sweet that also tempers drinkability litle. Good brew overall though, IMO well worth a try.

Foamy light brown head, mahogany brew with ruby highlights. Yeasty nose, some toast, anise, and cola. Fuller flavor, light and airy in body. Some caramel, toast, yeast, cherry liqueur-like sweetness that builds like a Sweet ‘n Low in a creamed coffee. Tea and liquorice late. Good beer, but too sweet for me, especially as it warms. It's not nearly as mind blowing as the saison.
