not super easy for me to get excited about a dortmunder, its such a plain, often one dimensional style, so straightforward as to be boring more often than not. this is no exception, although i think its a very well made example of the style, blonde, lightly malty, clean finishing, well carbonated, and just right for sessioning, if thats your speed. upstream does some crazy stuff, so they are allowed to make a beer this simple and not be criticized for it. i like the pancake battery malt base, its familiar and fresh and grainy, and there are only enough hops in here to give it the slightest bite in the finish. bubbly and bright, no stale or metallic flavors, this is well crafted yellow beer. a useful alternative for macro drinkers here i think, possibly a gateway brew. they should probably package this one if they dont already.
