Dark brown in hue with modest crimson influences, it looks surprisingly filling in the glass. The head was served about one finger in height, beige in color. The head retention was decent as a tight, little cap formed and lasted basically the whole consumption. Subsequent lacing was very spotty and it clinging power was mediocre. It was a wet lace, speckling the side of my glass. The nose is clean with a general earthiness from the fuggle hops. Light maltiness, weaker than many good Brown Ales. The potency was low, it doesnt say much anyway. Based on the aroma I wouldnt have said this beer was a Porter. The palate is akin to the nose but a little louder, fairly earthy and dirty like a good English Ale. There are weak roasty qualities, some sweetness from the malt with traces of buttery nuts. Low bitterness. There is a small amount of astringency at the finish with a pleasant dryness. This is a very boring Porter, the aim was a session beer, note the low abv. Still, this beer misses its mark. It is not flavorful enough to motivate me to drink it more than once. There is nothing off about this beer. Its just not working for me. Medium in body with firm carbonation, the mouthfeel is fitting for this beer. It is sturdy but not bulky. Nice. This is an average beer; there are no two ways about that. It is too quite. Id rather drink Third Stone Brown (that Brown Ale is a bigger beer than this Porter). Nice try, still I cant recommend this beer. I sampled this at the Upstream in downtown Omaha.
