This unique rye beer was inspired by The Manhattan Cocktail (rye whiskey, sweet vermouth, bitters and with a kiss of cherry juice and garnished with a cherry). NOLITA starts off with a delicately biscuit-toasted bread malty background that includes three different types of malted rye for an in depth layered rye backbone to start things off. Look for flavors of sweet vermouth from the additions of Italian plum puree added directly to the primary fermentation, and to finish things off we added sweet cherry puree to the brew at the end in the serving vessel & aged for a period of time in Templeton Rye Whiskey Barrels.

A: Dark orange and slightly hazy with an inch of beige froth.

S: Grainy with restrained spicy notes. Grapefruit blends with lemon and cherry. There's a slight medicinal note in there with accompanying oak and a kiss of rye whiskey.

T: Lemon, grapefruit, earth, and chardonnay grape. Lightly spicy bread and grain with a light tartness that doesn't really fit. I get a little cherry as well. Slightly medicinal. There's a little Rye whiskey in the finish.

M: Lower medium body with matching carbonation. The mouthfeel is somewhat thin.

Overall: I'm usually on board with Upstream's beers but this was odd.
