Sixpoint Tripel

I was at the same tasting as the previous reviewer at Bellport Soda yesterday and the Tripel was the first thing served by Jeff from Sixpoint Ales. It was after Dave, the owner, served a growler from hell made from the emptying of the lines of his existing growler station, after the jockey boxes failed to work right, to make way for the Tripel, the Atlantic Amber, the Gorilla Porter, and the Sweet Action (?).

The Tripel had a smooth upfront taste to it that reminded one of an American style of Tripel with a host of flavors as in vanilla, honey, orange peel, and something herbal. Of course, we were drinking from Dixie cups in front of the store, so it wasn't exactly the right glass. There was something slightly less refined about it in the taste, so it didn't quite make it to the top US Tripels, but it was very drinkable.

Sraw colored with a one finger head. The smell was malty and phenolic with a unique and tantalizing, floral, wintergreen spice aroma. The taste had the traditional rich malt background but it had a more pronounced hop flavor, not bitterness, that is not usual present in most tripels. However, this deviation from tradition proved fruitful. A mellow mintyness was present from whatever delicious hops that Sixpoint choose to use. This beer has appropriate body with the notable alcohol presence. It goes down like a tripel with high alcohol. Interesting rendition of this style. Good beer.

I drank this beer at a Sixpoint tasting at Bellport Beer. As I arrived I was handed a 10 ounce dixie cup. I bought a growler of it with a friend and drank some later on in the night but again from plasticware.
