Hazed straw color, effervescent, with two-and-a-half fingers of foamy, yellow-tinted head. Nice retention. Dissipates in uneven waves and leaves excellent lacing.
Smoked ham in the aroma, with just hints of a clean malt bill and some sulfur underneath.
The taste is less meaty. There’s definite campfire, but you can more clearly make out the lager underneath — which is relatively clean with a little sulfur and just a touch of fruit to it, followed by a moderately bitter backend that’s muted by an ashy finish.
A little thicker bodied than normal for a pils, Helles or AAL. Moderate carbonation.
Hard to rate this because I haven’t had a ton of rauchbier and heavy smoke isn’t my thing. The smoke in this, nonetheless, seems like it comes in at about the right level — the defining characteristic of the beer, while still allowing other qualities to peak through. The base beer seems fine, too. It is a bit more ashy in the aftertaste than I remember from others, though.

Blind review
Appearance is soft, slightly cloudy yellow color with a good amount of off white head. Smell is very lager-like, slightly slinky. At this point I’m thinking lager, maybe Pilsner. Crisp, clean, with a hint of.... something else that I can’t put my finger on right now. And with the taste it’s obvious that smell I couldn’t pinpoint was smoke. It’s a little bacon-y. Very smoked meat-y taste. Like drinking a bonfire. I dig it. Mouthfeel is just beneath medium but nowhere near watery. Overall I like it quite a bit. Very nice change of pace, but if you don’t like smoked beers then you should press skip on this one.

L - 2-finger thick, bright white head atop a translucent yellow body.
S - bacon, orange, biscuit, liquid smoke. Yum.
T - smoked meat. Bacon, brisket, pork shoulder. Biscuity middle. Low bitterness. Low sweetness. Low booziness.
F - medium-light body with high carb.
O - please sir, may I have another?
