Served in a goblet at a bar down the street. For some reason they serve a lot of beers in goblets. Dark orange color and a thin layer of fluffy white head. Some dissipates and small puddles are left behind. Big hop nose. Fruity citrus but also a layer of dry grassy hops. Malts come through in the flavor more than the nose. Sweet bread but this is all hops. Candy citrus and a mix of resinous earthy hops. Finishes with an assertive hop character but it isn't dry and biting. I like the balanced combination of the fruity citrus and resinous pine/grass. Tasty hop head IPA.

 

 

 

Columbus dry-hopped cask

A - Cloudy, golden-orange body with a white, bubbly, two finger head...the retention was decent with the head holding onto it's bubbly features...not much lacing

S - The dry hopping didn't do it for me...the nose is very grassy and fresh hop smelling...maybe some slight citrus notes mixed with caramel malt

T - Flavors step up a few notches from the nose...the grassy flavors still stand strong over all the others...caramel makes a brief appearance in the middle mixed in with some bready malt as well...the hops come back in the finish with the grassy flavors again...some slight citrus is lingering as well

M - Medium bodied...nice cask feel...needed more bitterness and less fresh cut grass

O - As I said before, the dry hopping in this certain cask did not do it for me...there was a lot of grassy flavors going on and the malt bill was stronger than I would have preferred

 

 

 

 

 

This beer did not do it for me. Served on cask at a local beer bar. Beer is yellow with a mild haze, no head, no lacing, low carbonation.

Aroma is citrus, mild lemon, grass.

Beer is light in body and really unremarkable, there is a low level grinding hoppiness but overall pretty boring. I wouldn't have it again, mediocre IPA.

Pours a hazed golden orange with a layer of white head on top. Spotty lacing and wispy film left behind.

Bitter hops and citrus fruit with an overwhelming sense of herbs. Spice and sage combine with grassiness, which creates somewhat of a mess.

This is definitely strange. Starts off nice and hoppy with plenty of grapefruit, but quickly smashed with a wave of pungent herbs. Medium malt backbone with caramel, but more grassy herbs continue to punish the flavor until the finish, which unfortunately lingers on the tongue.

Medium body, higher carbonation, dry and lingering on the tongue. I'm not sure if there was definitely something off with this, but this is easily the worst Sixpoint beer I've had. I hope this was just an isolated issue and will re-review if I try one again.

A-Pours on the darker side of the IPA spectrum. Fluffed head sits atop the dark copper beer. Leaves of lace. Transparent.

S-Nose is not as intense as I would truly ant it to be but it displays some pretty awesome attractions. Floral, piney, and citric hoppiness. Not too much malt to speak of, especially when it is served quite chilly. I am a big fan of Bengali Tiger, and Autobahn on-tap and mightily fresh is a must try. So was the flavor as good as I had hoped?

T-Wow! My first thought after the initial sip was "Yeah, this definitely hits the spot''. Yes, all the standard hoppiness is there, but the prevailing hop flavor here is grass. One of the most grassy tasting beers. Very crisp and floral and grassy. I appreciate IPAs that are heavy on the grass and floral flavors. Once the green grass flavors slightly subsides, a strict slap of bitterness melts the tastebuds off my tongue.

M-Not one of those IPAs that could be mistaken for a DIPA. Medium feel. Carbonation is set to a perfect pitch. Resinous yet still crisp.

O/D-Overall, I really liked this one. A dry, bitter, crisp, grassy IPA. Very fresh, and very enjoyable. I was very happy to pick this for my first beer of the night. It did not disappoint.

Sixpoint Autobahn IPA was on tap at the Vanderbilt in Prospect Heights this past weekend. I drank it. It tasted good.

This IPA is crisp before anything else. Sexy as a nude model, the fluffy head sticks around the top of the ruddy copper body better than most beers I've ever had, and it leaves traces of lace all over the pint glass.

The smell is pine, grapefruit, and refreshment. It's not the beer's strongest suit, but it does the job. The taste is drying - perhaps too much - but balanced nicely with a good array of hop notes from grapefruit to grass. The malt character is light, despite the burnished body. It drinks very light.

Just right for summer.

Full disclosure, I tend to review beers I really like. This falls in that category.

Tried on cask last night at George Keeley's Alehouse on Manhattan's Upper West Side. It was $7 for a standard, not Imperial, pint. Not sure why they call this the "Autobahn IPA", as the Autobahn is in Germany and this is an American take on a British beer. But it's a cool name.

Nice appearance, with that nice head that suggests a well-pulled cask ale.

Other reviewers called this a big, hoppy, bitter beer. I guess I've been drinking too many really bitter IPA's lately, because I call this a balanced, interesting beer. The hops are there upfront and throughout, but you get that refershing almost watery follow-through that I like. In that sense it reminds me of a British bitter served on cask...but of course more hoppy.

If I have one criticism of Sixpoint it is that they can be inconsistant. They make great beers, but I've often found that the great new beer from Sixpoint doesn't taste nearly the same a few months later. I hope this one sticks around and tastes as consistantly good as I recall it now.

(I will work on posting some bad reviews, but really can't do it to the hard-working craft guys out there. I will slam Michelob Ultra or something some time.)

Tap at Armsby Abbey

Fluffy 1 finger head fades slowly with lacing over hazy orange nectar color beer.

Nose has fresh hops, light musty resins, orange rind, fresh citrus mist, touch of pine and grapefruit.

Taste is more fresh hops, citrus, big orange rind, bitter musty resins and oily fresh wet hop like taste, pretty bitter, very light juicy hops and pine. With that is just a hint of malt, mostly just lots of fresh hops. Long bitter finish, gets very bitter and slightly astringent, like chewing on fresh hops, lingering resins, bitter orange rind, and hint of peppermint, also very dry.

Mouth is med bodied, decent carb.

Overall not bad, not really any sweetness or malt to balance the crazy bitter hops, a west coast style ipa.

A: The pour is a cloudy orange color with a finger of soapy white head.

S: Not a bad nose on this, at least up front. Pretty grassy with some grapefruit peel and a strong herbal note. A hint of tropical fruit (pineapple?), and some mild butter on the back end of the aroma.

T: The flavor is a bit buttery. Some of the same grass and herbal hop notes, but the butter is just omnipresent. If you can get past the diacetyl, there are some nice fruit (citrus and pineapple) flavors to be tasted.

M: Medium in body with a medium to high carbonation.

O: The butter just ruins this beer.

Hazy light amber with a couple of fingers of beige head, sticking all over the glass. Aromas are pine, caramel malt and bitter fruit. Flavors are ... straight up weed! All I can think about is the weed. But it's also herbal and bitter and just the slightest bit of malt background. Medium with heavy residue and good carbonation. Another goodie from Sixpoint.

On-tap at Barcade, Jersey City, NJ

A: The beer is hazy light yellow in color and poured with a thin off white head.
S: There are light to moderate aromas of citrus in the nose.
T: Similar to the smell, the overall taste is very citrusy and has a bit of crispness. There is a light amount of bitterness.
M: It feels medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is very easy to drink because the hops and malts are well balanced.

This IPA poured out as a nice a muddy orange brown color. The head was fluffy and white leaving a decent lacing. The smell of the beer had a nice citrus aroma mixed with a decent earthy note as well. The taste of the beer had a mix of fruity citrus with some earthy hops in the aftertaste. The mouthfeel was pretty good. Overall it's like they too ka west coast IPA and an East Coast one and blended them together. It was enjoyable.
