EMBRACE THE CHILL Winter is right around the corner... so we brewed up BONE CHILL. This 8% DIPA is the PERFECT beer to reach for during those colder months. Packed with Simcoe, Columbus, Chinook, and Citra hops, boosted with notes of SPICED PEAR, and finished with just a hint of spruce, winter blues got NOTHIN' on this brew.

Ale brewed with natural flavor and spruce needles.

This IPA pours a clear pale amber with a mostly white head. The nose has a fruit aroma, which could be spiced pear. The fruit carries into the flavor, which unfortunately does not stay long. The mouthfeel is very crisp, but the whole thing ends rather prematurely.

Quite pungent and a little on the dank side. However I like the taste of the spruce, and the spiced pears are notable but not overwhelming. Overall I was looking for something interesting and different, and this met the requirements nicely!

Drank before the expiration date but the flavors are definitely off, this IPA is a bit expired tasting despite not being past the BB date and having been refrigerated at and since purchase. I can taste the spruce, the pear comes out a bit more in the after taste and is actually quite nice. The issue is the off notes from the hops. I'll have to try this one again despite having already consuming it fresh.

Bone Chill – from Sixpoint. 16 fl oz can picked up at Franklin Beer, Franklin, PA on 08/12/23 for $ 3.50 (Including tax), $ 0.219/fl oz. Reviewed 23/12/23 (Review 3201). Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Bottom of can stamped “BEST BY MAR 07 24”. Stored at 34 degrees at home. Served at 49.1 degrees F in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. The final temperature was 57.7 degrees F.
Appearance – 4.
First pour – Straw (SRM 3), clear.
Body – Pale Gold (SRM 4), hazy. Under direct light, same. There may be a slight chill haze.
Head: Large (Maximum 5.2 cm, aggressive center pour), ivory, high density, average retention, dropping to a 0.4 – 0.9 cm crown with occasional mountains, and a thin, complete cap with a large rocky island. Irregular bars and columns of froth remain on the sides of the glass.
Lacing – Excellent! Wide, three-dimensional band of tiny to small bubbles. The initial lacing (See above) have been reduced to mere spots.
Aroma – 3.75 – A bit earthy, a bit resinous, just a hint of pear. No malt, no yeast, no alcohol (8 % ABV as marked on the label).
Flavor – 3.5 – Slightly bitter, earthy, and herbaceous. Some of the malt backbone shines through. The resin seems gone. No yeast, no alcohol. No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl. Weak gastric warming.
Palate – 4 – Medium; smooth and creamy; soft but lively carbonation.
Final impression and summation: 4 Although the spruce terpenes don’t come through in the flavor, I’ll give them points for using needles rather than “Natural Flavors”. The flavor isn’t anything special, not bad, just not exceptional, with the pears most prevalent in the aroma. The earthy herbaceousness of the nose is good but much weaker in the flavor. Still, for the price point, I can’t complain.

This is another beer I drank while I was in Florida a few weeks ago. It sounded good in premise so I bought the 4 pack but didn’t end up enjoying it too much. I drank it begrudgingly but figured I’d still bring home a can for a proper review. Let’s get into it

Pours a cloudy orange gold with 3 fingers of soapy off white head that slowly fades to a cap and leaves decent lacing

The nose actually shows a nice balance of firm bitterness and sweet fruity notes. I’m picking up on aromas of bready malt, herbal hops, pine sap, poached pear, dank weed, grapefruit zest, golden raisin, and sweet honey

Things take a turn in taste, being somehow bland and bitter simultaneously. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting bready malt, herbal hops, sweet honey, orange zest, pear skin, and black pepper. The swallow brings notes of pear skin, black pepper, herbal hops, black tea, biscuity malt, and grapefruit zest

A medium body pairs with gentle carbonation, resulting in a slick beer. Finishes a tad sticky

While I don’t really love this, it does benefit from an actual pour as opposed to drinking it directly from the can on the streets of Gainesville

1st review on BA. Best winter warmer ever.
a) Amber, chill haze, with the lace you seek in winter as a comforter.
s) pear and bear scat, tropical fruit slightly turned, grass.
t) Follows aroma - abundant and adds woods, spruce, wood sap.
f) Creamy, finishing sharpish.
o) Best winter warmer ever.
