On draft at Rockin Fish, Northport, NY.

Poured a dark copper hue with a one finger foamy white head. There was decent retention and lacing.

The smell featured fruity esters and an earthy grainy malt.

The taste consisted of a musky lemon zest and grainy caramel.

The mouthfeel was typical of the style.

Overall a decent IPA.

Entering the information on this beer based on how it was listed at the growler station at Olivers in Albany; I suspect this is the Sorachi Ace hop varietal, but Olivers listed it as "Spice of Life - Sorachi" so that's how I'm adding it here. . . .

A: Poured from the growler into a pint glass. Body is slightly hazy honey-golden with a 1-finger fluffy white head that's reinforced with nice carbonation and has good staying power as a result. Some lace left on the glass.

S: Not terribly strong in the nose - florally hops with a touch of citrus. Slight mustiness detracts from overall impression.

T: Modest sweeter malt foundation - some caramel malt with a bit of breadiness. Hop bitterness follows; lemon peel and grapefruit pith. Hops aren't overwhelming - no one will confuse this with a San Diego or West Coast IPA - but there is a good lingering lemony bitterness on the aftertaste.

M: Good creaminess; call it medium in heft.

O: Solid stuff. Other than that musty smell, this is a fine IPA. Not a palate shredder, but definitely an American IPA (as opposed to an English IPA or APA) with good hoppy bitterness.
