Poured a muddy orange with an off whitethin foamy head that does not go away. The hazy orange/brown colour isnt exactly dark side? The scent of pine and spruce is very strong with a touch of mild grapefruit and a nice bitter aroma. On the taste however...mild and nothing to speak of really. The mouthfeel is super creamy and the mild, easy drinking beer goes down real fast. This is not a dark IPA but is a rather creamy, sweet IPA. This is slightly better than average, mostly because of mouthfeel and aroma.

On draught at the Collins Pub, Dark Side is a dull, dark orange with a brownish core and light tan head that leaves nice lace sheets early on. Quite a bit lighter then their Imperial Dark Side, it's really not any darker then many other IPAs out there, and not in line with your normal CDA (although I confess, for regular IPAs, I much prefer a very light malt base).

Smell is nice and hoppy, plenty of resin, a little skunk, citrus, and most interestingly, a chaulky slate that I'm really digging.

Taste is good, a nice assertive pine/earthy NW hp profile, but with some substantial malt flavor, pale though, bready. Long, lingering hoppy finish, assertive.

Mouthfeel is dry, slick and spicy, medium bodied.

Drinkability is pretty good, a bold IPA in the NW style with very little citrus. Not what I would ever call a CDA (dark) IPA though, but that is no matter, I probably prefer it more like this!

Served in straight pint glass. Poured a medium dark brown-amber, with a1/4 inch of thin white head that had OK retention and lacing.

The aroma was a nice blend of malt and hops, very well balanced. On the tongue however, the brew was very hop forward. On top of the malt foundation there was nice crisp hops grabbing your attention, with good, tangy citrus finish.

The body was full, well-rounded, smooth and balanced. Drinkability was very good, as usual for this brewery, it's certainly worth a couple if you see it or worth a trip out A-Town while it's on. Overall, this brew is a slight let down for one of my local faves, but it is still better than a lot of other highly thought of IPAs that I've tried, certainly worth grabbing if you get the chance.
