Had to tap at the Ram brewpub in Northgate. While this beer was pleasant, I just couldn't help thinking over and over again, this is basically a fairly decent DIPA at an (at best) fairly decent brewpub.
The beer pours an impressive darkish peach color with good head retention and very good lacing. On the nose I get the protypical bitter citrus with maybe a hint of pine. The beer smells pleasant, but by the same token I don't get the impression it will blow my socks off. On the palate this DIPA is very nice with a good dose of hoppy bitterness, nicely balanced with the malt. It's clearly in the West Coast style, and does not have the excessive malty sweetness and high abv. I see in a lot of East Coast DIPA's. The beer has a medium bodied mouthfeel, but does not come across as heavy or tiring to drink. Abv. is well disguised and drinkability is pretty good.
A solid effort from Ram; much better then any of the other seasonal offerings they had available the day I visited.
