Elliott Bay once again exceeds common beer boundaries with this black ale that works as something of a Belgian-style stout. Noir is assembled with stout ingredients then fermented with Belgian yeast. This conceptual anomaly delivers a worthy, drinkable ale defined by a grainy, dry flavor with a carbonized edge. The aroma is blackened grain with some coffee.
EB serves Noir in a stemmed oval glass creating an elegant presentation with a tall cap of tan froth yielding thick, clumpy lace. A curious and appealing ale worth seeking.
