Served in straight pint glass. Poured a clean, clear light honey color with a thin head that managed to leave nice, sticky lacing.

The aroma was bold pine hops, with some citrus in the background. The flavor followed the path blazed by the aroma, lots of piney hops, just enough malt to notice and good zing at the end.

The body was good, a little fuller than average, and was a little sticky on the finish. Drinkability was very good for the style, having a couple of these strong guys would be easy, so use caution. Overall, a very good beer, a must try when you see it. If you're interested, here's the description from the brewery: http://www.elliottbaybrewing.com/descriptions/pro_am_IPA.pdf

Elliott Bay regularly lists as many as three IPAs on their menu and two imperial IPAs. I sampled both imperials (the other was called Demolition), preferred this one, and ordered a schooner on draught. I was told the ABV is somewhere near 9%.

Pro-Am is a hop lover's dream. It is ferociously hoppy in aroma and taste with a bitter, lemon rind finish that can't be ignored. EB serves it in a tulip glass with a thick-and-lumpy head of foam you could probably float a dime in. It resembles whipped cream and the lace breaks away in heavy gobs that look shotgunned to the glass. A wall of slow rising micro-bubbles stirs a body of hazed yellow-amber to complete its impressive visual presentation.

Hop aroma and a corresponding hop flavor are unrelenting and seem to incorporate all elements of the hops spectrum including spearmint and some skunky Sativa cannabis. Yet the malts still evince a mild wash of sweetness.

Though the body is just slightly thin, I'm not complaining in the least. This is a very tasty strong ale and a great fix for hop fiends.
