light hint of roasted-ness from dark malts and mild hop spiciness with an aftertaste of toffee. Originally designed as a "Dunkel Weizen" (dark wheat), this recipe has evolved over the years and is now brewed at "bock strength" = over 7%.

Poured into a Celebrator pokal. Pours a dark, somewhat murky, brownish orange with a half finger, off-white head that dissipates to sparse patches with slight lacing. Aroma of dry caramel and lightly toasted malt, Postum, dry toffee and a hint of orange. Flavor is biscuit and caramel malt, Postum graininess, toffee and faint orange. Medium bodied with moderate creaminess. A pleasant winter season bock with the requisite caramel malt, but also a husky, pleasant deep biscuity malt too. Faint fruit notes that tasted mostly a non-citrus orange, but maybe some faint stone fruit also. Nice mouth feel. Although most brews from here seem laid back and appropriate for sipping with food, this one and the pumpkin beer are ones I'd seek out again. I liked the interesting grain taste of the malt that is not typical of continental ones; somewhat reminded my of the biscuity style of barleywine, but not as intense. They describe this as a wheat beer, but it tastes like a barley malt base to me. I liked it.
