This presents a clear caramel copper color with a modest off-white head and no lacing. The aroma gives an idea of vague malty grain but very little sign of hop. The flavor offers some fairly tame woodsy citrus hop, sweet and a bit swampy. It's medium bodied at best, sort of uninspired carbonation, quite drinkable but not highly desirable. It's definitely OK but not one I would hurry back to retry.

(From notes)

A - Orangeish gold color, poured with a bubbly thin white head. Not great lacing, but OK

S - Citric and grassy hop aromas, biscuity/bready yeastiness and sweet maltiness

T - Almost a faint taste of sourdough, great hoppy character which is more grassy and a touch citric

M - Touch oily and viscous, subtle carbonation. Nearing on medium MF

D - Hugely drinkable as it is equal parts interesting, enjoyable, and balanced pretty well.

Overall, it actually very much reminds more of a hop-forward English IPA more than a traditional American version of the style. That being said, it's a damn fine brew.

Poured from the growler into a pint glass the beer is a dark copper (think old penny) color with one finger of near pure white head. Head sticks well and form a spotty lace throughout the sample.

Nose has big hop floral aroma with citrus fruit, pine, grapefruit all coming thru.

Taste is hoppy up front and crisp, very crisp. Solid hop bitterness grabs the back of the tounge. Citrusy slight grapefruit taste balaned with a malty backbone. Hops steal the show but not out of balance. Piny and dry crisp finish leaves you looking for your next sip.

Medium body and crips drying finish.

Solid, drinkable and a nicely made and balanced IPA. A nice find from a very nice litter brewpub. Strength kick I'm after the sample amd you realize this one has a little punch.

Poured a deep murky copper hue with a slight wispy white cap. .

The smell featured a robust caramel malt a juicy citrus hop.

The taste consisted of a heavy sweet malt and earthy resiny hop.

The mouthfeel was toward the fuller side for the style.

Overall a tasty AIPA. The hops could be a bit more pronounced.

This is the flagship beer at this brewpub. It is a hearty, strong, unapologetically forceful IPA. It has a grassy citrucy flavor and leaves a nice alcohol and strawberry finish. It is very complex and rakes over the palate in a way that begs for another. It complements many of their food selections and is also quite nice when they have it on cask - although I prefer the extra carbination from the regular tap.

I had this on tap at the brewpub/restaurant. I tried 3 beers that night, and this one was definitely the best. Orange color, lots of hops flavor but it seemed pretty balanced against the malt. If I go back again I'll try a sampler (I was drinking full glasses so I couldn't try too many).

If you're in Pittsfield, you should also try the Underground Pub at the Crowne Plaza hotel (2 blocks away from Pittsfield Brew Works).

This one was my first cask beer. I did not really know what to expect but I found for something like the IPA I really liked it. Since I have had several different beers from their cask but you always remember your first. The beer was all-round good. I found the apperance hazy as expected and taste to be better than I expected. The tempature was suprizingly nice considering it is served at room temp.

Picked a growler of this IPA up from the Pittsfield Brew Works just one day after its grand opening, while traveling home to Brooklyn from Vermont. I actually was quite looking forward to reviewing some of the beers from this place, since I lived in Pittsfield for a little over two years and watched two brewpubs flounder. But when I heard that former Victory brewhands had taken over operations, my hopes were lifted.
Opened this growler two days after filling, and with a vigorous pour, it produced a nice fluffy tan head, with the beer itself the color of a shiny penny. The smell is actually quite sweet, portending the sturdy malt backbone that this beer posesses. I deteced a bit of vanilla and toffee in the nose, as well as some delicate orange-tinged hops.
This is an IPA for those who like a solid malt backbone to support the massive hopping. The taste is crisp, snappy maltiness, with a nutty vanilla flavor, followed by a slightly citrus hop kick that fades into a pleasant, but not overhwleming bitterness laced with grapefruit pith. Pleasant mouthfeel that avoids the syrupy characteristic that a beer of this strength might have. Alcohol is relatively high, but well-hidden. This beer is so balanced, it makes a fabulous session pint. The growler was taken out pretty darn quickly. I am really looking forward to heading back up to Pittsfield and trying more of the Brew Works beers very soon.
