midnight brown with slight amber glow when forced against light, little to no head (how it came on-tap also). lacing left in rings and dots dribble down the pint's insides. aroma blossoms with freshly-lit rich tobacco and dark chocolate. obvious tartness present via raspberry pulp freshness without the need to cloy. medium body and easily drinkable due to lower carbonation level. first shot is fresh berries, pureed.. reminiscent of a fresh pie in its masterful blend of breadiness and bursting fruit. oatmeal stout base provides luscious layers of burnt sugar, fried dough and the aforementioned syrup-glazed pie crust (chocolate crust maybe?)... i know i'm a sucker for raspberry stouts, and usually i like them thick and sluggish. this one is both complex and oddly refreshing. what a unique, accomplished winner from one of my new (and way too far away) brewpubs. recommFGended.
