Now this is a Hefeweissen made for Iowa! We took a little liberty with putting a twist on the name and making ours a Hefe"r"weissen to fit in the whole Iowa thing we have going on at Millstream Brewery.
While we took liberties and played with the name, we did not compromise on making a true German Hefeweizen. As with a Hefeweizen, ours is quite sweet and fruity, with a full body. Our yeast produces the unique phenolic flavors of banana and cloves. It is very lightly hopped so it has little bitterness.

This has to be one of the least attractive hefeweizens I have experienced. Slightly hazy but not bright. Head that disperses in a hot minute leaving no lacing. Aroma is nice of wheat, banana, and cloves. Flavor drops off. Very sweet with little yeast influence. Just a sweet wheat beer. Light body with poor carbonation. Just too fizzy. A very mediocre beer.

Another road beer picked up near the interstate, a random grab from a random hippy co-op. I don't remember buying this, but glad to - as it's my only souvenir from Iowa. Looks like piss, but with less head... Delicious smell: all sweet candy and gum. Taste has some spicy hop and a healthy dollop of Bazooka gum.
Heavy on the bubblegum, hefe. I'm eating pickled onions with this and reconsidering my life. Recommended

Poured out a hazy, straw-yellow color with a one-finger, white head of foam. It smelled of banana, clove and wheat. Nice wheat flavor, mild banana and clove notes.

Appearance : Apple juice colored body, 70% opaque, no head.
Smell : Lots of burnt and stale malts. A little bit of wheat and some coriander behind it faintly. With imagination a bit of torched blackened banana peel can be nosed.
Taste : Thankfully much better than the smell and look. Some toasted malts (lightly scorched) on the front, followed by a touch of wheat, and finishes delectably on marshmallow and banana creme notes. The finish is what makes this beer good.
Feel : Buzzing with carbonation, light to medium bodied, with a slight creaminess, ending with a slight parch.
Overall : A subpar Hefeweizen - but a welcome beer compared to some of the atrocities I've had lately. I wouldn't buy it or try it again, but it's better than other Americanized Hefeweizens.

Poured from 12oz bottle into a clear mug.
Appearance: murky medium-yellow hue with a thin layer of which foam which dissipated quite rapidly. Not especially inspiring, but not terrible.
Smell: lightly wheaty aroma with a nice bit of banana character from the yeast. Not bad at all, and much nicer than the appearance.
Taste: very much like the aroma; a basic wheaty flavor with a decent banana and clove hit. Not bad for an American take on the style.
Mouthfeel: medium-light body with a decent carbonation and creaminess.
Overall: not a bad American hef; it's got a decent flavor even if it doesn't look like much.

Poured into a Weizen glass with a cloudy yellow when held up to the light, noticed a lot of bubbles from the carbonation with a one finger white foam head that lingered a bit before dissipating. No lacing present on this pour.
Smell to my nose is a good amount of yeast and malt. This seems fairly close to what I'm used to with the more well known German Hefeweizens.
The taste starts out somewhat fruity before transitioning into the typical Hefeweizen with some banana and clove but then quickly moves into an odd and somewhat bitter finish with a lingering aftertaste. There really isn't much complexity here and the whole taste experience doesn't really flow from one end to the other very well.
The mouth feel was good with the good amount of carbonation present, this sort of offsets the mediocre taste flow.
I feel this American take on the traditional German style is better than most I've had so far. The overall taste seems to be "off" but it's easily drinkable and better than some American Hefeweizen's. I wouldn't hesitate to get this at a restaurant or festival but there are better options within this style from elsewhere. Hopefully Millstream can improve this over time.

On tap at Cedar Rapids airport bar. This beef is just too heavy in ultisols ways. Very thick mouthfeel, cloying sweetness and a very chewy mouthfeel. It comes off more like an imperial version of the style. The color is good. The aroma is close wit good banana and clove. But some balancing citrus notes would have been optimal. Also the draft version had a slight alcohol burn! I am not sure what Millstream wag shooting for with this brew, but it was just too much off-style for my tastes

Pours a cloudy yellow with a hint of orange when held up to the light, and a lot of bubbles from the carbonation. Forms a pretty good sized white head that soon reduces to about a half inch of head.
Smell is bready, good amount of yeast and malt.
Starts out fruity, kind of lemon like. There is a hint of banana and clove as well, the downside is a bit of a funky flavor at the back, probably from the hops.
Feel is good, the carbonation adds a lot of tingling.
A decent wheat beer, but a bit short of the really good ones. What keeps this from from being better to me is the finish and the aftertaste. It starts out nice enough, good flavors there, but the back and aftertaste don't really mesh with the front, leaving kind of a weird aftertaste. It is easy to drink, and not bad, just not outstanding.
