Sampled on tap at Whiskey Road, Cedar Falls, IA. Served ice-cold in a snifter. Light chestnut-colored body with reddish-brown highlights, topped by a finger of surprisingly long-lasting tan head. This required quite a bit of warming-up time, but it was worth the wait. Aromas and flavors are nicely balanced between caramelly malt, dark bread, and oaky tannin. Pleasant bitterness at 21 IBU. Alcohol is pretty well hidden. Body is on the light side of medium light (i.e. a little watery). A dry and slightly astringent finish rounds out the profile. Overall, well done (and a great beer with spicy food).
