I found this one during a recent trip to Papago's. Billed as a "double amber," this beer has very limited availability. So who am I to pass up an opportunity? Brewed with Wilamette hops and dry hopped, this beer comes in at a respectable 62 IBUs and a hardly detectable 8.2% ABV. Crystal clear amber in color, topped by a moderate, lacy white head. Aroma of caramel apples. Flavor starts off sweet, develops a toasty, toffee-like maltiness, and finishes with a very pleasant herbal hop flavor. Huge, beefy full body. This beer strikes me as almost bock-like, very pleasant overall.

I do believe this is the first "Double/Imperial" amber ale I've ever tasted, and I certainly hope it won't be my last.
The pour a transpicuous deep golden amber color, the head portly in size, spumescent in texture and the color a winsome light tan, as it evanesces, the lace forms a glutinous sheet to meld with the glass. The nose is steeped in the floral aroma of the hops, citrus crisp and malt sweet, a real treat for the old schnozzle with the start rich in malt, ambrosial and the top middling in feel to the palate. Finish is all about hops, persistent in there spiciness with a moderate acidity, dry lingering hop-laden aftertaste, a real "Hop Heads" delight, and with that whopping 8.2 percent ABV, a bit of a "Belly Warmer, unfortunately for the present available only on tap at the "Sonora Brew House and Papago Brewery".
