While at my favorite watering hole, Papago Brewing for the Chimay Promo, I noticed a new beer on Cask, Sonora Breweries Double Trouble I2PA, and I just knew it was going to be a great night for Beer sampling.
As it was pulled from the cask, and into my waiting Monks Mug, it poured a deep pellucid amber, the head a creamy crown of white and as it ever so slowly diminished, the lace created was a silky fine sheet to conceal the glass. Oh my God that aroma of hops, wham right their at the front all flowery and sweet, lemon like in their crispness, with the malt to assist in letting you know that youre about to sample a great beer. The start is rich in malt, sweet and a bit tart, the top also rich in its feel to the palate, then you get the full blunt force of hops that shock your taste buds from their quiescent state, to full alert in a split second, majestic, powerful, sensational, geez I just cant find the right words to express the pleasing power of an Imperial IPA.. Finish is quite dry with never a hint of the 8.4 percent ABV, an amazing beer, from a long time favorite brewery, and for now only on cask and tap, I sure hope theres a little more left when I go back on Saturday for Papagos Oktoberfest celebration.
I guess a word of warning, this is a true "Hop Head" or "Hop Lovers" delight, and meant for those of us that crave the massive hop spiciness only found in imperial IPAs.
