Brought back to Moscow from the Crimea by a colleague (thanks, Vladimir), this brew's domestic packaging consists of a standard brown half liter bottle with a green and yellow label featuring nothing but the lengthy name of the brewery circling a coat of arms and the name of the brew. Back label claims only purity law ingredients. Best before 4/20/05, I opened it on 1/16/05.
Pours a clear copper-tinged gold under a two finger snow white head that has some body but can't linger very long. Five minutes after the pour we are left with some thin film across the top and a very small collar. No lace. Malt in the nose, with a hint of vegetable something and a touch of flowery hops. The mouth is pretty flat and fairly light. This one tastes like a thousand other eastern european pale lagers: sweet, slightly vegetarian malt followed by a touch of metallic hops. Perhaps not so metallic here as elsewhere, and the vegetable (or bad watermelon) impression is quite subdued here. This is a serviceable, perhaps even drinkable rendition of a pretty dull and unappealling style. I'll probably finish it.
