Well, it is a government run operation so you know what you are in for from the very beginning. The beers are limited to the ones the government will allow through their listing service, so don't come in expecting a plethora of interesting options. There are only a couple of IPAs and no DIPAs to be found. The good news is that the prices are set by a bulk buyer, so they are pretty good considering our atrocious taxation... The turnover here is high and it is attached to the distribution warehouse

Having been there numerous times, I can say without fail they have one of the best selections in Ottawa from the LCBO database. That doesn't mean that it is sensational, and as someone pointed out to me a few weeks back the LCBO listings are not very adventurous. Do not expect to find many smoked beers, lambics, etc... Also some things are only sold in 6's, some only singles.

As for service, I have been there with next to no beer on the shelves, but piles in the back and if you even get service and ask for a few different beers, they certainly act like they would rather be doing something else...

With all the hoo-ha going on with the SAQ strike, many Quebecers refusing to cross the picket lines are finding different ways to satisfy their drunken desires, and heading out to Ottawa is one of them. Most of them only know of the Vintages store downtown, but as I scanned the LCBO website I noticed the Beer selection seemed a tad better at this "Ottawa South" location. Yeah, it takes longer to get here, but it's not rocket science. Just get off the highway, take a left on Bank Street, cross the Glebe and you'll eventually come across it to your right.

The Beer fridges are in the back and to the right, but they only seem to keep cool a few macros and pilsners from here or abroad. The real goodies are in the two isles near the corner. I love the fact that the LCBO has seasonal offerings. This subsidiary has more imported brews from Belgium, the UK and the US, and more local micros like Scotch Irish and Wellington than at Vintages, but I think they don’t sell as many gift packs. I was however able to get the Petrus gift pack, as well as the Niagara Eisbock in the wooden crate gift pack here. I’ve been to this location twice in a month and selection seems to rotate often. And everything I’ve bought here was fresh and good (for Beer at least, my friend bought a bottle of wine here and it was corked). The Orvals I got here were 3-4 months old, just the way I like’em.

Little to no service on the floor to speak of, but once at the cash the friendly staff are always courteous and even help you load your stuff into your car.

Even when the strike is over I’ll be back here often.

Good LCBO to visit since the regional warehouse is attached to the store. Situated in the south of Ottawa, it is off the main touristic attraction which is good because choice is usually better but it means a longer drive. Because less people frequent this store, you usually don’t have to rush out there to ensure you get the hot new release. Parking is also larger then the Rideau store which is very convenient. Also, it should be noted that they usually are the first to carry the seasonal offering but i is always best to check the website before making the drive to ensure they have what you are looking for.
