Opens late afternoon. Barkeeper was friendly and knowledgeable. Beer was upper average. The place and especially the terrasse looked as if it had seen brighter days...

Only opens at 4pm despite what website says. Arrived when it opened so i was the only one there. The IPA was decent but nothing more. The owner who was tending bar was very friendly which helped. The outside terrace looked a bit neglected maintenance-wise. Siboire is much better IMO.

A small place, open later in the aft, right downtown and up several steps. A smaller place works in a small city, as the setup of the bar allows cross-conversation. In other words, its large enough. A very good scotch selection, but only a few taps, of which half were his brews. The abbey was decent and hit the mark, though the other two I cannot say the same. The owner is from France and dedicated to his place. More of a small restaurant.Wort a stop but make sure the priority is to hit Siboire and Boquebiere.

La Mare au Diable is located near the corner of King St. and Wellington St., which is what you could call "downtown" Sherbrooke. It occupies the second floor of a building that looks like it used to be a large house.

The place has 3 distinct areas and a wrap-around terrace. There are seats at the bar and tables. It has kind of a café atmosphere - dark and fairly quiet. It's a place to go to chat with friends.

They have 3 of their beers consistently on tap - a pale ale, an amber ale and a stout - which are pretty bland and generally 2 rotating offerings which are more interesting. Sometimes it will be a fruit beer, wheat beer, or strong belgian ale. I find their belgian-style beers to be quite good, although on the sweet side. They also have kegs of Unibroue.

Service is good. There are only two employees, one being the owner. He seems surly and annoyed at first (typically French) but warms up once you chat with him a bit.

I haven't really tried any of their food but they have a menu of light fare.

Beers are pricey at about 6$ a pint. It's not my regular place, but it's nonetheless one of the better pubs in Sherbrooke (not a big town, mind you). If you're in town make a stop but don't go out of your way to visit it.
