Dark pour for a micro imitating a macro. No head. Deep gold.

Deep buttery diactyl scent with hints of pilsner grain. Think Corona with chemcial butter.

Deep buttery diactyl flavor. I can't handle it. Christ this is horrible. I needed three limes to get through it.

Even for the style this is bad.

Served on-tap @ Beck's Brewpub in Waterloo, IA. Tried with & without a lime. I thought it was interesting Beck's decided to try a Mexican lager. Sampled this with their Nachos Grandé and it was a perfect match. Would go great with any mexican cuisine, I would imagine.

Appearance: Relatively clear golden-copper color. Darker than most mexican brews, which is nice to see for once. Not much for head but it is an adjunct lager, after all. Leaves spotty lacing on the glass.

Smell: Unlike Corona or Negra Modelo, this doesn't smell the slightest bit skunky. Pure aroma of sweet grains and relatively generic floral hops.

Taste: Tastes actually much better than I thought, considering it's a Mexican lager. It doesn't need a lime to make it taste good, it's fine by itself. Subtle floral hop flavors override the malts. If I were rating this just on the style, it would be a 4-4.5, but I'm not a huge fan of the Mexican lagers. If you like Mexican brews, don't leave without trying this one.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Crisp, refreshing mouthfeel due to the relatively high carbonation.

Drinkability: Very easy to drink. I was getting another glass before I was half done with the nachos..the jalapeños i was eating seemed to demand more cerveza.

Overall, a nice rendition of the mexican-style adjunct lagers, however, I'm not a huge fan of the style myself. If you are, definitely try it..I don't think you'll be disappointed.
