Beck's interpretation of a German-filtered/kristal weizen. Had on-tap @ Beck's Brewpub in Waterloo, IA...
Appearance: Light golden color. Off-white head is pretty modest and dies fairly quickly, leaving a ring of foam around the edge.
Smell: Aroma is much more complex than I thought it would be.. Some light biscuit malts as well as wheat, banana, lemon, and other fruits i can't exactly pin down. Mild hints of spices are evident as well.
Taste: Well, they say this is a true German-style beer.. I dunno about that, but it's not bad. Tastes like a typical wheat beer with a bready taste that is more mild than the Bald Eagle Hefeweizen. It has a sweet taste up-front and has a mild citrus-hop bitterness.
Mouthfeel: Mouthfeel is medium-light bodied. Finish is clean and quite refreshing, but a little too "fizzy" for a weizen.. Simply a little too light for my taste.
Drinkability: Rather drinkable. I only had one glass and plan to make it back there soon to add a little more muscle to my review of it.
