Poured from a day-old growler into a tulip yields a deep reddish-brown body capped with a finger of foam that quickly reduces to a ring leaving a few speckles of lacing.

Smell is sweet and earthy; molasses, dark malt and nutty grains tickle the nose.

Taste is rich and sweet with lots of roasted malts, honey, and dark caramel backed by a nice grainy nuttiness and a pervasive smokiness that help wrangle that sweetness into balance.

Very smooth with light carbonation; easy, friendly, and sessionable.

Amber red with a nice white head. Smells sweet and malty. Hints of caramel and nuts. Meduim body with a fair amount of carbonation. Taste malty and nutty. A slight hint of hop bitterness. Easy to drink. A nice offering from a local brewery. I have always enjoyed Ham's and glad to see they have been added finally to BeerAdvocate.

Appearance: Clear medium amber body with a decent head and nice lacing

Smell: A touch of caramel malt and nuts

Taste: Starts out with a blend of caramel malt, hazelnuts and a smidgen of peat; flattens out to the finish with more pronounced nut flavors and some bitterness

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation

Drinkability: Nice example of the style for this beer that won third place at the 2004 Great American Beer Festival
