Draft arrives in a chilled shaker pint, short about 3-4 ounces of an 'actual' pint, as is usual for the mostly-undertrained staff at Ham's. The drink is ebony with a tinge of ruby at the edges and a nearly two-finger cap of rocky tan foam that recedes slowly and leaves plenty of scattered lacing all over the glass.
Once the drink emerges from the pseudo-cryogenic stasis induced by the frosty glass, the smell is toasty and chocolatey with hearty grain and a little twang.
The taste is sweet and dark-malty with a note of pale-malty semisweet chocolate accented with dry cocoa. A but of hard-water caramel takes precedence as the drink warms, and a note of roasted barley provides a pleasant touch of ashy bitterness.
The drink is silky medium-full in body with minimal carbonation and excellent drinkability.

Pours opaque brownish black with a little tan head that leaves some lacing. Thick and sweet. Smooth silky finish. Not a whole lot of hops going on but big chocolaty, oatmeal goodness. Even though its sweet, I could still have at least one or two more. I can always expect something good from these guys at Ham's.
