Coffee-haters, BEWARE! This brew is NOT for YOU!
The latest of brewmaster T.L. Adkisson's "little experiment" series of beers is an American stout fortified with 10 pounds Baldo's Magic Coffee beans! The beer man chose not to put this brew on the nitrogen system, and I'm stoked to give it a whirl 'au naturale'!
The draft serving appears black-hearted with edges trimmed in oiled teakwood and is topped with a finger's thickness of pale khaki foam. The head recedes in fairly short order, resting at a broken sheet that leaves thin sip-line rings on the inner wall of the shaker pint glass.
The smell is mild, mellow, and loaded with rich dark roast coffee sweetened by a whiff of dark chocolate.
The taste is spot-on for the nose, with mild dark chocolate accenting a potent mouthful of fresh-brewed cooled black coffee. The quality and richness of Brad "Baldo" Markowski's cold-steeped coffee shines through nicely, with any bitterness therefrom very well-suppressed by a mildly-sweet, chocolatey stout backbone. This brew would be great with brunch or dessert, but stands strong on its own, too.
The drink is light-medium in body with silky-smooth natural carbonation, and is plenty quaffable for the style.
