On-tap at Wildflower Cafe in Watkins Glen, NY.

Cloudy yellow-orange pour with a medium white head. Clove, banana, and bubble gum abound in the aroma. Lots of fruit in the flavor, mostly banana. On the light side for a hefeweizen as far as body is concerned without being watery. Good carbonation. Very clean and thirst quenching. Billed as their summer seasonal, this was the perfect beer after a sweaty morning hike through Watkins Glen State Park!

Nice weizen. Starts with mild sweetness and lemony grain. Cracker. Finishes with soft bananas and that hint of clove you'd expect.

Roosterfish Summer Sky Hefeweizen...on tap at the Brewery/Wildflower Café in Watkins Glen

Appearance-orange-yellow, medium sized head that stuck around, served in a normal pint glass, but oh well it looks fine.

Smell-wow! banana, spicy clove everywhere, very pungent aroma, appetizing as well.

Taste/Mouthfeel-sweet up front, heavy notes of banana mix with the alcohol, light mouthfeel, spicier finish than I expected. Ok smoothness.

Drinkability-the flavor is definitely here, perhaps could be a little smoother, but it is very flavorful.

Overall-not perfect but a flavorful hefe that tasted good and went well with my meal. Nice job from this small brewery.

On-tap at the brewery, into a 22 oz. glass.

Appearance: Not as bright more-toward-yellow in color that a lot of Hefeweizen's are, this is more of a murky orange-copper color, with all the dirty-water type haziness going on.

Smell: A good amount of sweetness and bitterness, and though it's lighter on the clove and banana, it's heavier on the mildly earthy phenolics, which is a nice take.

Taste: Initial malt sweetness to nice bitterness, capped by lingering earthiness, with some banana and clove and phenolic flavors going on toward the finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied with good carbonation makes this a solid choice for a sipper in the summer.

Drinkability: All-in-all, especially from a small brewery making stuff in-house, this is a tasty summer brew, with good flavors and a nice sessionability.

Presentation: It was poured from the tap at The Wildflower Café / The Crooked Rooster Brewpub. The serving glass was a very tall mug.

Appearance: The body was your basic pale hazy yellow/tan color. Its head was a bit small for a Hefe, only about one and half fingers tall. What was there hung on well and was thick and creamy. Lacing was slick and slid down the sides of the tall glass.

Smell: The fruity banana and spicy clove like yeast notes hit my nose as soon as the server placed it on the table. Under the yeast there were light hints of grain and wheat malt.

Taste/Palate: Its firm medium body and smooth texture set you up for every thing noted in the aroma plus a very mild hint of citrusy (lemon) hops towards the finish. It finishes with plenty of sweetness and fruity yeast.

Notes: It was just a little sweet and slick but overall this is a solid Hefe.

Chillin' down at the local tap house... See on the board the specials... Lots of summer beers already - pretty crazy given that the wind chill out is 8F right now! Ha! Anywho... I opt for this Roosterfish...

Looks like beer. Straw-colored with a faint chill haze. Smells a touch on the Belgian side - sweet and lightly spiced. Nothing really stands out so far - a decent beer.

Ah. But then I taste it. Wow. Wow oh wow. I mean... Wow! I've not been really impressed with RF before but WOW do I like this beer! It's what a heffe should be! Thick, right, malty, sweet, barest hints of clove and coriander. Awesome! Wow! I'd drink this all night!

I let the wife try it. She doesn't like it - too sweet and not bitter and bla bla bla. Well, what does she know about beer anyway? Sheesh! She'd be drinking Racer V all night if she had her way (and, actually, she does have her way and that's what she's drinking and loving)!

Anyway, I like this stuff. Maybe a bit heavy and sweet for the truly hot days of summer but those are so far away at this point that it isn't even funny! On a blustery spring day... This hits the spot perfectly!
