Had on-tap at the Roosterfish BrewPub in downtown Watkins Glen, NY as part of a flight sampler.

A: Crystal clear golden yellow in color. Thin head that disappeared quickly leaving a ring. Not a lot of lacing that stuck randomly in the glass after finishing.

S: Alcohol aroma mixed with yeast and malt. The alcohol is most present but it is covered up nicely. It's not something I winced at, rather went back again and again. Very nicely balanced nose.

T: Tart initial taste with sweet at the finish. Alcohol blended nicely throughout the flavor. Hop bitterness is well hidden by nice malt blends.

M: Light bodied, slightly watery - but not like BMC, think, "not dry".

O: A nice belgian strong ale that I would be happy to revisit on a regular basis.

Presentation: It was poured from the tap at The Wildflower Café / The Crooked Rooster Brewpub. The serving glass was a simple Roosterfish pint glass.

Appearance: Its body has a nice clear golden color with a small white head on top. The head lasted about half way down before fading to just a thin ring of foam. Lacing was slick and slid right down the glass.

Smell: There are lots of sweet fruity/estery note coming from this beer. I get notes of Banana, papaya and passion fruit.

Taste/Palate: Its firm medium body has an overly sweet character which becomes cloying after about half the pint. As the aroma suggested there are loads of tropical fruit flavor notes with sugary and bready/malty sweetness. No trace of hops or hop bitterness can be found to give any balance and there is just a very slight hint of booziness. Its carbonation is very mellow smooth which gives it a slick chewy texture.

Notes: There were some very good flavors here but they were overshadowed by the overall sweetness of the beer. I would love to try a bottle conditioned version of this beer in the hope that it would ferment out some of the sweetness and add a bit more fine carbonation.

The beer pours a beautiful golden color with a thick frothy white head that slowly fades to lacing. The aroma is good. It has a sweet pale malt scent along with excellent yeast esters. They provide a wonderful fruitiness as well as curbing the alcohol heat. The taste is good as well. It has a smooth pale malt flavor that's a bit sweet. It goes down easy with a nice yeast character in the finish. The elevated alcohol is well hidden. The mouthfeel is fine. It is a full bodied beer with adequate carbonation. This is a quality Belgian beer. It's not overly complex, but it's well brewed and easy drinking.
