Shared 500 ml clear bottle at local tasting, from a Tesco store in Gloucester. ABV is 4.3%. Copper colour, low white head. Weak aroma, a little caramel and nuts. Nutty flavour, medium dry, tolerable hops, not exciting but easy drinking.

Appearance: Amber/red, very liquidy with a small head that shrinks and leaves some good lace.
Aroma: Candy, resin, wine bottle cork with a light, citrusy, hoppy smell.
Taste: Dried fruit and nuts with a light mouthfeel which leaves a pleasant bitter aftertaste , reminds me of caramel?!
Overall: Not the most exciting amber ale/bitter but has a good taste and is easily drinkable. The aftertaste leaves you wanting more and the light carbonation makes it easy to guzzle down!

Colour is a red brown, small head but leaves half-decent lacing.
Smell is moderately sweet and fruity. Has a pleasant light hop character.
Taste is a medium bitterness, light maltiness, some candy fruit aspect. Pleasant and light.
Mouthfeel has a light carbonation and feel to it. Refreshing, good drinkability. Aftertaste has a toffee note, some dryness.
It's fine, pretty balanced. Refreshing drink, and shows pretty good character, nothing mind-blowing.

Bottle shared by Steve, 500ml clear bottle into a tulip. Best before September 20, 2012.
Reddish brown, white head with light lacing and a ring of retention. Nose is bready and biscuity, caramel, and some earthy hop notes. Typical of a bitter genuinely English all around. Taste is quite bready again, caramel, a bit of diacetyl. A very simple malt bill and a light hop bitterness. Great drinkability and light sweetness. A well crafted bitter, would love to try this on cask.

Poured from a clear glass 500ml bottle, best before 23 Apr 11. Pours a dark amber - copper color with minimal head. Only a thin cap covering the top. Very clear when poured.
Smells like a classic English bitter...I can detect the hard water-enhanced bitterness, hints of grass and hay, some diacetyl/butterscotch. Slight aroma of caramel or toffee for good measure.
Taste is that of a very mild bitter. Very smooth tasting, without any particular flavor really standing out. There is a hopy bitterness that is also slightly spicy that follows after an initial sweeter malt taste. Also a roasted quality to this one. Interesting, but fairly subdued.
Mouthfeel is, as noted, quite smooth. Minimal carbonation, as you might expect in this style. Drinkability...well, it's easy drinking, but there is not a lot to pique your interest/contemplate. All in all, this is a decent, middle of the road English Bitter. Worth a try. I picture this as an example of the classic low abv session beer in an English pub.

A nice dark amber colour, leaning to the brown side. More head appeared in the bottle than when I poured. I think it was less than the last time I had one.
It smells great. It smells so smooth... like a mellow dessert, akin to a bread pudding with a sugary sauce. It's got that caramel / toffee scent. It really kicks in after you swallow. Breathe out after a swallow - it's the best part!
The taste is good. It's not as impressive as the smell. The smell kind of raises the bar, and the flavour sneaks in just beneath it. It still tastes good... just a lighter version of the smell.
In the mouth it's fine. It's a bit too watery, especially given the scent.
Pretty drinkable. One of these every now and then would be alright... just not a bunch at once... not enough (or too little) to it.

I tasted this 500 ml bottle on 18th Oct 2009 (BBE Oct 2010). First off; a clear glass bottle always makes me nervous. I've never had a very good beer form one!
Anyway, poured the beer into a pint glass, it was an amber brew with a thin head. No lacing.
The smell was grassy hops; reminded me of Greene Kings Beer to Dine For.
The taste was better than expected; there was enough malt in the flavour to provide interest and make this a decent enough beer.
Overall; this brew was better than a macro lager, but I would not be rushing out to but another bottle. Might be good with a Chinese meal.

Still cleaning out my beer stash from my trip down to Nova Scotia about a month ago and this was one of them.
Pours a light amber with golden highlights topped by a finger of cream coloured, quickly dissipating head that leaves some decent lacing.
Smell of bready malts, caramel and some really nice sticky toffee with a hint of grassy hops.
Taste seems quite subdued compared to the smell. Bread, biscuit, caramel and toffee upfront followed by a kick of dry herbal hops that becomes more pronounced as the beer warms.
Mouthfeel slightly watery but decently balanced. The 4.3 ABV makes this a very easy drinking beer.
Overall, being my first english bitter I wasn't dissapointed but wasn't really anything special. Smell was very nice, but the taste seemed fairly subdued and the body seemed to be lacking. Very refreshing brew but I don't think I would buy another.

Compared to its slightly weaker cask version this is a whole lot better in my eyes.
Clear 500ml bottle with a long life left, I poured it into an 'Old Speckled Hen' pint vase.
The body was a clear, bright amber. On top sat a good off-white foaming head, this stayed for a good while before fading away leaving lacing on the glass.
Mild toffee aromas hit my nose, followed by a more normal (for UK Bitters) hop and malt smell.
As the beer warmed it got sweeter but it started out with a bitter hop flavour which I enjoyed. Throughout it had a dry aftertatse.
Couldn't call it full bodied, but it was no lightweight either. A long way from a great Bitter but overall about average for a bottled one.

Pours a burnt orange, with a light head that dissipates almost instantly. Smell is mainly spicy hops, with some floral notes and hints of caramel. Taste is similar, with somewhat bitter and spicy hop taste up front, mingling with some light sweet caramel. Medium-light body and medium carbonation. At 4.3% ABV, is drinkable. An adequate, fairly tasty beer, but nothing exceptional.
