Mauritius Brauerei "Perlenbacher European Lager"
330 ml. green glass bottle, "Best If Used By: 12.06.2017" and sampled on 06.21.2017
$5.99/six-pack @ Lidl, Virginia Beach, VA
Look: Clear golden body beneath a short head of bright white that hold fairly well and leaves some spotty and streaky lacing behind.
Smell: Skunked. Sweetish grainy malt with grassy and lightly herbal hops.
Taste: As the aroma suggests. The sweetish malt is bready, balanced by a stiff bitterness, and it finishes dry with some lingering herbal and grassy notes.
Feel: Medium-light in body with a crisp, standard carbonation.
Overall: Skunky aroma aside, Perlenbacher is a basic, otherwise clean and well balanced Euro lager that matches its budget price point. I'm thinking that a Heineken clone was what they were going for with this one, which explains the green glass bottle and the three red stars at the bottom of the label.
