A- Just beautiful. The color is jet black and the head was well formed and was dark brown in appearance. Retention was moderate. Can definitely see the "legs" when you swirl it a bit in the glass which is something I look for in a high ABV stout.
A- Very rich and complex. Smells strongly of coffee and dark chocolate with slight burnt tones. Towards the end of the sniff you can sense a fruity ester such as raisins. Hop aroma is moderate. Alcohol smell isn't sharp but is present as it should be seeing its an imperial.
M- Is very full-bodied, creamy and chewy. There is a warm feeling when you drink from the ABV. and was moderately carbonation.
T- Rich and Deep. This beer has moderate bitterness and hop flavor and high toasty characteristics. The after taste, taste of chocolate and carmel with light hints of raisins.
Overall this is a great tasting stout. Although, I thought the ABV was too high the balance of aroma and flavors presented in the backbone of this beer are excellent. Great job on this Imperial Ale.

Enjoyed on 03.30.09 at Fort Street Brewery. A early Monday evening. Served in a standard American pint glass.
A: Mostly black w/ a Small tan head. Mild lacing on the glass, but it "gave me the eye."
S: Raisins, chocolate and some dark berries like currants are up front.
T: Roasty & boozy. Hoppy bitterness in the finish (IBU = 78 as of tasting).
M: Soft carbs & fairly light for a stout of heartfelt IBUs.
D: A good stout with proud flavor. The 7% ABV allows it a good kick without "kicking" your butt. Highly recommended.

A: Served in a snifter, the beer was pitch black with a small tan head. Little lacing was left on the glass.
S: Typical stout aromas of chocolate and coffee.
T: Big complex taste with flavors of dark chocolate, mocha, and coffee, with a roasted nutty character. A bit of hops bitterness in the finish.
M: Full-bodied and thick with soft carbonation.
D: An excellent stout with fantastic flavor, and the 8% ABV makes it possible to drink your fill. Highly recommended.

This is more of a Russian Imperial Stout to me. Pours out to a pitch black color with a small head of brown foam. Low carbonation, no lace. Aromas of roasted malts, dark chocolate, some wood notes. Nice. Taste is full bodied and complex; lots of malty goodness, roasted bread notes, fermented grain, earthy wood elements, hints of hop oil, coffee. Solid. Mouthfeel could've been more substantial, but that likely would have affected the drinkability in an adverse manner. Nice. Worth trying.

This is one large and in charge stout! Served jet black, and quite viscous with a thin light brown head. Nose is actually floral, quite 'green' too, I agree that this is the stype of brew that could do with some aging to meld things together a bit. As it was however it quite a sucker punch. Taste is very full and robust, thick and chewy like an oatmeal stout, but hoppy and alcoholic like an RIS or American stout.
The keyword here is 'big, as it is certainly that, as it was though, it was a very green beer and while it was definitely enjoyable, it seemed a bit much as it was.
SlĂ inte!

from my notes i was served a jet black sample with a good light brown head.
the arom a was fruity, yeasty, malty.
the flavor is roasty, malty, chocolate, with some hop spice in the finish.
the mouthfeel is very full and coats the inside of your mouth as it goes down.
