A 500ml bottle with a BB of March 2017. ABV is stated as 5%. Picked up a while back from B&M. Presumably a beefed up version of their regular 'Black Cat'.
A: Poured into a pint mug. A very dark reddish-brown colour that appears black in the glass. Produces a smallish head of creamy light brown foam that lasts for a minute or two before reducing to a surface layer.
S: Aroma of roasted malt with hints of sweet molasses, burnt grain, faint chocolate, a touch of liquorice and ale yeast. Rather nice.
T: Tastes of sweet dark malt with notes of roasted grain, mild treacle, ale yeast, faint stewed hops and a twinge of smokiness. A subtle bitterness upon swallowing.
M: Mouthfeel is smooth and lightly tingly, with soft carbonation and decent body. Aftertaste of roasted malt and leafy bitterness.
O: Good stuff - a decidedly drinkable dark brew. Looks OK, while the aroma and flavour are satisfyingly roasty with a good balance between sweet and bitter. Body is alright. Pleasantly traditional - goes down a treat. Worth sampling if you come across it.

Bottled (5% ABV)
Dark brown body with big bubbled huge tan head that threatens to leave, but never does.
Sweet coffee aroma & brown shugga.
Malt, coffee, hints of classic northern dark mild elements sawdust & blackberry
with a slightly sweet, creamy ever so slightly sour edge
drinkable mouthfeel, refreshing carbonation.
This is good, on cask it must be awesome

On cask at recent 'spoonsfest. Stronger version of Black Vat. Looks, feels good and has some decent hops, but the coffee is too bold for me. Probably a well put together beer, but not to my taste.
