I had this at the brewery with Hans, bottle into a Narke glass.
The beer pours a super dark mahogany wood, light tope hope rises about two fingers giving nice retention and lacing...This dubbel has three herbs added and initially the aroma is very medicinal. After a minute and with the benefit of fresh picked juniper branches and berries I can tell you the medicine smell is juniper mostly with some other herbs. Typically this kind of smell is too much to take but this perfectly balanced with some smoked malt which cuts the flavor. Light smoke is there from start to finish and its really nice and doesn't stop the drinkability at all.
This is an old style of bill tried to make moden. Not my cup of tea, but it you want a decent tasting grut style beer this is worth trying.

The colour is black with a tint of red. The two finger head is warm white. Lots of lacing.
The smell is a bit smoky with tart hints. Some sweet malty notes.
The taste reminds more of a stout than a double. Some smoke and bitter-sour flavours. A mild sweetness creates a fine balance. The aftertaste is malty and smoky with a sour hint. The smoky flavour makes me think of malt whiskey. There are some notes of cookies and alcohol in the finish.
The carbonation is light. The liquid is smooth.
An odd beer. Still very balanced and drinkable.
