not sure if this is a new one for these guys or if its just a rebranding and update of southern gold, another pale honey beer they have. its pretty simple stuff, a pale malt base dosed with honey, but it works predictably well. the honey is floral and blossomy and is more than just sweetness here, its also herbal and distinctive, they did a nice job getting its flavor to come through. aside from a little light barley malt, thats the only thing i really taste though, the yeast is essentially flavorless, and the hops are no more than a pinch for bittering, so hopefully you like honey if you are drinking this one, because thats all there really is to it. the honey does make the beer a little sweeter than it needs to be later on, but i continue to enjoy its flavor. im not sure this is refreshing as it could be if it were a little crisper though, as its light and bubbly otherwise. ive now had a handful of beers from lazy magnolia and they have ranged from ambitious and outstanding to samey and forgettable. this is somewhere in between the extremes, a drinkable light brew with a distinct honey flavor but little character outside of that.
