Southern Gentleman, meet Southern Belle. It’s part of our 2013 lineup y’all. The flagship in our barrel-aged series, the Southern Gentleman features our Southern Pecan Nut Brown Ale conditioned in bourbon casks. While the Kentucky spirit melds evenly, it’s not for the faint of heart. Just as its predecessor, the Southern Belle also incorporates our award-winning Southern Pecan. The twist is the tub. Smooth as a gentle kiss, the Southern Belle is instead aged in Pinot Noire wine barrels. It’s sure to melt your heart.

Pours aneffervescent orange/copper with a rapidly dissapearing head. Zero head retention & lacing
S: Faint pear & leafy hops, not much else
T: Raspeberry, a little blueberry, a touch dryness & tartness up front. Dryness & raspberry as this warms, slight acidity as well, some sweet & tart cherry notes as well along with muted woody hop presence & even a little Chardonay. Finishes with a little Chardonay, & dryness
MF: Light body, slight carbonation
Kind of an introduction wild ale that drinks easy enough, This will not appease a sour/wild beer fanantic, but it also won't scare off the uninitiated, so there is that

On draft at Proof. Poured a reddish brown color with some tan-white head. Aroma is slightly biscuity and has a bit of caramel; however, it's got a funky sour yeast predominating smell. Taste is like that of a Flemish red. A bad Flemish red. Just sour and awful. Medium hop presence. Light body.

This is a southern pecan aged in Pinot Noir barrels. This has strong oak and red wine flavors. If you like a little sour in your beer this is a great way to go. It also has a mild nuttiness to it. The nuttiness combined with the sour, made for a pleasant experience. As an afterthought I have been told it could be mistaken for having turned.
