Either off the deep end or a show of brilliance, the Cincinnati brewers of Christian Moerlein turn their attention to a taste of challenge, intrigue and curiosity with a hefeweizen at its base and a fruit addition that's anything but stingy.
1,000 Weiss is a hazy mauve with robust skewed ruby and a slight purple tint. As a creamy froth calders from below, its fruit-forward scent is all things raspberry and blackberry. With a not-so-subtle backdrop of banana, clove, citrus and peppercorn, the beer's perfume is met with a malty-sweet taste of creamy wheat, sugar cookie and fresh baking bread.
As the middle palate unfolds, the sweet candy and cake flavors and textures hold firm. Overwhelming berry flavors nealry overtake the senses, but the boldness of the beer's natural but imperial ester status is empowered with banana, lemon and apple while equal parts yeast spice is of clove, peppercorn, white pepper, vanilla and light winey spice. Low bitterness allows the beer's final tastes to be sweet and fruity with a balance of spice instead of hops.
Full, rich and surprisingly warm, a taste of mulled fruit tea comes to mind with the beer's wine-like alcohol, creamy carbonation and spicy balance radiating in finish. A long and sweet afterglow of peppery flavors carries a hint of potpourri and floral soaps briefly as one sip trails into the next.

An imperial heffe with blackberries---I'm in!
This heffe pours a murky red tinged brown with a nice head of lightly pink
foam that settles to a thick ring, thin wispy layer, and light lacing. Nose of
dark berries, phenol laden wheat, and strong booze. Flavors exceed the nose
with blackberries on all sides, honey and wheat with light notes of banana and
subtle spice hit on the sides and back finishing moderately dry and lightly tart.
Great mouth feel, lightly warming, medium light carbonation, and a tart lightly sweet
finish. A very nice ale that is a unique hybrid as well as a testament to the brewers
creativity. Dangerously drinkable and substantial. Excellent!
Cheers!
