A limited offering from Roots Oragnic Brewery. Served on regular (non-nitro) tap in an imperial pint glass.
Pours a deep black hue topped by a creamy two-finger head that's not going anywhere fast. Aroma of rich roasted malt and a hint of cocoa. Palate is roasted dark and chocolate malts up front with more than a little chocolate flavor. The chili flavor comes through towards the back of the mouth, with the heat building on the swallow. Body is rich and velvety smooth, very nice.
Unlike some chili beers, the heat here is manageable. Still, it builds with each sip. By the bottom third of the glass I hadn't broken a sweat, but I sure was feeling some heat. A tasty, interesting option from an excellent local brewery.
