From a can. Pours mahogany with a thick tan head. The nose is slightly nutty and sweet. The flavor follows, also sweet and slightly nutty/roasty. Medium bodied and smooth.

This beer is a mahogany color, with no head.
Not much aroma. Sweet malt, a little nutty.
Ditto the taste. Brown sugar, nutty.
Sweet in the mouth, drinks easily.

December 23rd, 2015 - A dunkel! But very sweet. Closer to standard, but it seems like it's just got a touch too much sugar, and not enough flavor overall. Even the aroma is a little diluted, like a watered down root beer. The mouthfeel is thin, and the mild brown sugar note is playing almost entirely in isolation, save for a slight nutty aftertaste.

Pours a very nice brown color, pretty nice carbonation, with a nice thick/foamy/creamy one-finger white head, which leaves some minimal sticky lacing behind. The nose is very nice malty, nutty. The taste is very nice malty, kinda nutty. Medium body. Overall, a tasty new.

Poured from a can, a dark brown tea- color. Smells of malt, tastes of toasted raisin bread, a little chocolate, a mouthfeel on the verge of silky, overall quite nice.

Appearance: Arrives at the bar with the liquid a coffee color and the head a thick tan; nice lacing action all the way down
Smell: Chocolate, toast, some caramel and the faintest hints of fruit and nuts
Taste: Toasted wheat bread and chocolate, up front, with the caramel underpinning; vague fruit and nut tones through the middle and into the finish, where the chocolate and toast maintain their dominance; a bit of lager twang in the aftertaste
Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation
Overall: A nice change of pace as not many breweries are tackling this style; Pug Ryan's does a nice job with it

From a can into a goblet. No freshness date.
Pours an attractive brown under an unusually dense and rich looking 2 finger cap of foam.
Smells of sweeter roast and rich malt with a subtle underlying fruitiness of lager yeast and a nice whiff of hops.
The flavor is a total hit! What a nice departure from the overly generic "brown ale" so commonly seen in small breweries. Lightly sweet toasty malts pair with poise to a lightly fruity and subtle hop presence. Well put together, and well integrated. Very nice.
Conclusion: The first beer which has surprised me in a few months. Awesome job Pug Ryan's Brewery, this has turned me on to your beer big time!

Deep mahogany brown in color with excellent clarity. There's a fingernail of beige around most of the rim and nowhere else. Notes of sweet chocolate and caramel are present within the nose. I taste caramel and dark chocolate. The mouth is lightly chewy and dense.
