a fine glass of beer, although I don't score it particularly high in any single category, the total package is pretty good. it pours pee yellow color, like youre real dehydrated, with a disappearing white ring. the nose is fusel alcoholy, and at 6% abv it shouldn't be. some floral notes and a light but interesting yeast. flavor is real light wheat malt, filtered unfortunately, because I like whatever yeast we have happening here. theres a light lemon taste, helps out, but again it tastes more alcoholic and high gravity than the style should even approach. bitter in the aftertaste from not hops. like the over the rail pale, this one is also in need of some careful refinement. a lighter beer that might work better in summertime. the feel is not bad, its ultralight with average carbonation and not quite as clean a finish as I would like on it, but I don't want to be arrogant. not a bad beer at all, quite refreshing, just not memorable. the name is near and dear to me...

Pours a lightly hazy gold color with a medium size white frothy head.

Aromas begin with equal parts tangy wheat and table sugar. As it warms there are some damp earthy notes with a bit of apricot.

The tastes begin a bit spicy, clove-forward up front, followed by a little semi sour-ish wheat maltiness. As it warms there is more sweeter pilner, crackery maltiness and that same apricot that was in the nose.

The mouthfeel is medium to light bodied with medium carbonation. Finish is slightly spicy and tangy from the Wheat malt and German style yeast.

Overall this was a subpar wheat beer. Really can't add anymore except the name is far more enjoyable than the contents of the can. I am actually having a hard time remembering a wheat beer is disliked as much as this; look elsewhere.

 

 

Lunch aged this can in my beer box for a good 6 - 9 months before we decided it was "ready" for our inspection. Served in a wine glass.

Beer is amber, hazy with a nice white head of medium and large bubbles, low retention, some lacing.

Aroma is grassy and a little grainy.

Beer is medium to light in body with some grainy acidity at the back end and some mild sweetness and perhaps a hint on hops in the midpalate. Overall this beer was pretty unimpressive. Not a repeat.

The beer is orange with a mild haze. Sediment in suspended animation. The head is nearly a half inch thick and coats the glass with copious lacing. The aroma offers some sweet fruit, malt, particularly oranges. The beer is mildly sweet, with some bread and citrus presence. Light bodied and fruity. Decent beer. Worth a try.

A big shout out to woodychandler for yet another canned beer. Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has a cloudy golden color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of lemon and wheat. Taste is tart, definatly a high wheat presence, a touch of lemon, not bad but not a flavor that I could spend the evening drinking. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is an ok beer, nothing special.

This was part of my haul from the Nice CANs III BIF and thanks to Poeksbeerdude for sending me many nice CANs! They keep The CANQuest (TM) glugging along.

My nickname is "Woody", given my resemblance to Mr. Allen and I am often greeted by fellow teachers with "Morning, Wood!" I sometimes explain the reference to those who I CAN trust are not going to be offended and nark me out to the administration for sexual harassment and other times, I simply smile and move along. Morning Wood, indeed.

The auditory nature of the Crack & Glug was enough to give me a momentary chub, but no wood. I produced a finger of dense eggnog-colored head with excellent retention from the pour. Color was a hazy orangish-yellow, like fresh-squeezed grapefruit juice. Nose had a spicy snap to it, grainy and wheaty, but with a tang to accompany it. Mouthfeel was somewhat full for the style, which I usually perceive as watery, and the taste was mild and unobtrusive, which is right for the style but not a selling point for me. It had the characteristic wheat/grain taste in the mouth that always reminds me of my father's Wheaties. I do not know of any other way to put it. Finish was semi-dry and definitely refreshing and it would probably be much more enjoyable on a hot summer's day. I would not use up cooler space for it, but I am not going to dissuade you from doing so. No wood was achieved on my part, morning or otherwise. YMMV.

A – 1 finger off-white head reduced to a crown while leaving very slight lacing, beer is a hazy golden yellow with moderate carbonation 3.5
S – Doughy with citrus zest and slight sweet grass notes 3.5
T – Malty wheat backbone, yeasty, lemon takes a backseat, mild hops… 3
M – Did enjoy the mouth feel, light in body, nice and milky even with the low-moderate carbonation 3.5
O – Decent brew but not a wheat/hefeweizen that is notable to me, skip it… 3

Poured a very light, hazy golden color with a fair amount of head and a lot of carbonation. The smell wasn’t very prominent, just some wheat, yeast and lemon. Mouthfeel was carbonated and watery, tastes heavily of wheat, lemon and some underlying notes that are too bland to really figure out. Being touted as a winner at the Great American Beer Festival, I wasn’t impressed. It wasn’t a bad brew, but rather boring overall.

Doin' this one in the raw--no lemon slices here. Poured harder than normal, not expecting excessive carbonation. Good call, as this beer speaks smoothness; tiny bubbles form a tight little head and the cloudiness from the wheat works as well. Doughy, bready aroma from nutty yeast and clean wheat maltiness. Very mild twang of fermented wheat, but the yeast stays neutral. Simple but tasty maltiness throughout. Touch of hop bitterness for balance, with a faint herbal flavor in the semidry finish. A decent, no-frills Wheat Ale, but an edge of hop flavor would do this beer great.

Morning Wood pours into my glass with an appropriately cloudy straw color. On top floats a dense eggshell head that falls to a patchwork and leaves just a bit of lace behind.

The beer struck me as a hefeweizen that has been turned down a notch or two. Lemon, raw wheat and yeast aromas dominate the nose. They fall into the flavor nicely, but overall I'm not impressed with what's going on. Raw grain and yeast do most of the flavor work. Bitterness is light and a bit lemony. The yeast and lemon linger through the finish. In the mouth the beer is light and grainy.

The friend I had this with nailed this beer perfectly. He felt it perfect for a day in the park playing Frisbee, but not something to kick back with for an evening at home. That pretty much sums this one up for me too.
