This beer was served on tap at a restaurant in Frisco, CO (can't remember the name for the life of me). One of the few micros on the list, and I wasn't really in the mood to drink a Fat Tire. The beer was served in a Pug Ryan's shaker pint glass.
The color is a very dark brown, near black, served with a small film of off-white head, as one would expect to see served at a BMC bar. Minimal lacing, subsequently, but the "head" retained at that thin centimeter head for the duration. Looks decent enough.
The smell is kind of lacking. Perhaps it was just the rest of the restaurant smells, but it was hard to get anything out of. I suppose I could push it and say that I could smell some chocolate malt and a hint of black patent, but mostly I could smell steak from the surrounding tables.
The taste was good, however. Fairly robust for a porter. Quite chocolatey with a hint of a black patent sour roasty flavor. Sweet up front with a chalky dry finish.
The body was a bit on the thin side with a crisp carbonation. Seems to be fairly low in ABV, as expected. Could be easy to session on if I wasn't exhausted and dehydrated, as well as a few thousand feet higher in elevation than my home in Iowa. Nothing too outstanding, but it was good, and I would have had another if I didn't go into "crash" mode as soon as some food hit my stomach.
