This brew is light in color, but not in body or strength. The Maibock style of beer has a significant hop character with a noticeable alcohol around the same as a traditional Bock. Light amber-colored bock crafted with Wyermann malts and yeast from the Andechs Monastery in Germany for a sweet, malty character with a subtle roasted accent. Medium body and low hop bitterness. The Helles is one of our most famous brews.

12 oz. Can

Pours a very nice dark golden orangy color, very nice carbonation, with a very nice thick/creamy one-finger off-white head, which leaves some pretty nice sticky lacing behind. The nose is malty, some hops, kinda roasty. The taste is pretty nice, malty, slightly hoppy, some roastyness. Medium body. Overall, a pretty tasty brew.

Look:
12oz can to a pilsner glass generated around a 2 finger head with low head retention. It is a very clear light yellow / straw color. The head fades quickly, but small amounts of lacing continue for a bit.

Smell:
Not very aromatic. There is just barely a hint of hops, malt, and yeast. There is a slight fruity scent that resembles a standard Kolsch.

Taste:
At first there is a slight hit of hops, but there is quickly a rush of sweet malt (lightly roasted) and a slight caramelly undertone. There is a slight fruit/grape flavor to this and has a nice yeasty flavor towards the end. The finish is pretty sweet and malty, yet slightly tart.

Feel:
Light bodied beer that seemed a bit thin, but seemed to leave your mouth with a slight coat.

Overall:
Pretty good beer. Closely resembles a Kolsch, but a bit different malty flavor and no wheat flavor. Not my preferred style of beer, but it is drinkable. Its a nice easy drinking beer that seems 'sessionable' for a hot day, but it does say it is 6.9% ABV.

Poured from a can into odell 12oz tulip
pours a dark gold, tinted with amber, little head that dissipates quickly. Nice looking beer, decidedly out of style.
pils dominates the nose, touch of dms. No diacetyl. Slight herbal hop aroma, disappears as quickly as it is noticed. No esters.
pilsner breadiness up front, touch of cracker, sweetness fades into hop bitterness, slightly spicy that lingers on the tongue with mineral aftertaste. No fruity esters, no diacetyl
full bodied, medium carbonation, no astringeny, creamy
overallx the beer misses the mark for a munich helles. The pils base is there, as is the clean fermentation. The hint of DMS is to style, however the color, head retention, and gravity is not. This is a heavier and darker take on the style, more along the lines of a helles bock.

rather robust all up for a helles, not sure ive had many german ones pushing 7% abv, and not too many with this much residual texture and sweetness from the grain. i like a heftier beer, for sure, especially this time of year, but helles means bright, and this is weighty more than bright, even though carbonation is fine. its more than that, it needs to be cleaner and more easy drinking, carry more ability to refresh. yeah, this doesnt do all that, so i think helles is a misused term here, but the beer is tasty aside from that. the flavor is good, fresh sturdy grain base, pils and pale malts, with more hops than usual too, giving it a little bite on the back end. i like the bigger feel this time of year too, its not a complaint, just an observation. not my favorite beer at this place, but i can see why they do well with it. its a real appealing craft beer for those used to drinking yellow beer but interested in stepping up.
